Vehicle Crashes Into Restaurant; Four Injured

COLUMBIA, MO (October 25, 2014) - At 7:38 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 the Columbia Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a building at 709 Cherry Street, Addison’s Grill. 9-1-1 callers from the restaurant reported that several people were injured.

Based on the 9-1-1 calls, firefighters requested additional ambulances and a rescue squad also respond to the incident. Columbia Firefighters arrived at 7:42 p.m. to find four people, two adult females and two adult males, who had sustained injuries from flying debris after a vehicle struck the south wall of the restaurant. The vehicle impacted the building at a nine foot by four foot glass-block window. Debris from the impact was cast approximately twenty feet into the building, causing the injuries. The vehicle then left the scene.

Columbia firefighters provided medical care to the injured patrons and then assisted the ambulance services with transporting them to University Hospital.  As a precaution, firefighters built temporary supports for the damaged area of the building. Columbia’s Building and Site Development responded to the scene to assess the structural stability of the building. The building was deemed safe to re-occupy.

A fire engine, ladder truck, and rescue squad responded to the incident. Crews were on scene for approximately ninety minutes.

The Columbia Police Department is investigating the incident.
