Water line work on Paris Road and William Street will restrict Tuesday traffic 

COLUMBIA, MO (October 24, 2014) - Columbia Water & Light will be removing a water line valve on Paris Road at the intersection of William Street on Tuesday, October 28. William Street from Paris Road to Amelia Street will be closed to through traffic. Paris Road will remain open but the traffic lanes in both directions will be shifted. Left and right turns from Paris Road to William Street will not be allowed.  The work will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will continue throughout the day and night. At the latest, this project will be completed by Wednesday, October 29 at 7:00 a.m. Motorists are urged to be cautious when traveling in the area and use alternate routes when possible.

During this project, 29 water customers will not have water service from approximately 10:00 am on October 28 through the evening hours. Customers will be individually notified of the disruption in service. A boil advisory will be in effect for these customers for a day after water service is restored. The drop in pressure while the valve is being removed could cause a backflow situation where a contaminant could be siphoned into the water distribution system. Water quality tests take 24 hours to process so Boil Advisories usually last for one day.

Water line valves are used to isolate main breaks during repairs. The water line valve on Paris Road is not in an ideal location. It can be removed because five valves were added to a new water main installed in the William Street and Hinkson Avenue area.
