50 Year Anniversary Event Friday, August 21

COLUMBIA, MO (August 19, 2015) - The press and general public are invited to the City of Columbia's Public Transit 50 Year Anniversary Event on Friday, August 21st at the Wabash Bus Station in downtown Columbia. 

A line up of speakers and announcements will begin at 1:30pm and last until approximately 2pm when the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will perform a ceremonial ribbon cutting to mark the occasion. Immediately following the presentation and ribbon cutting, all guests are invited onto a city bus for a free 30-minute guided tour of historical locations in downtown Columbia, with a special focus on Columbia's transportation industry throughout history. 

Presentations will include words from Drew Brooks, the City's Multi-Modal Manager; Cheryl Price, the Chair of the Public Transit Advisory Commission; Bobby Hill representing BYD Company Limited; Barbara Buffaloe, the City's Sustainability Manager; and Kit Stolen, the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. Topics of presentations include recognizing the history and importance of public transit in Columbia, announcements and updates on upcoming projects and developments for the future of local transit, and environmental and sustainability issues in our community.
