City of Columbia hires new chief information officer

COLUMBIA, MO (December 2, 2015) - The City of Columbia is pleased to announce the hiring of Jim Chapdelaine who will serve as the City’s chief information officer (CIO). Chapdelaine comes to the City after a long career with IBM which started after he graduated from college.

Chapdelaine began his management career with IBM in 1991. As he advanced in the company, he took on different leadership roles. Most recently, Chapdelaine worked as the Director of US Delivery Centers for IBM in Columbia.

For the past three years, Deputy City Manager Tony St Romaine has served as the interim CIO.

"I am thrilled to have Jim as a member of our senior leadership team for the City. He is a proven executive with established success in improving business performance and operational results,” St Romaine said.  “I look forward to working with him as we continue to deploy technologies that will increase efficiency and improve the City's delivery of services."

Chapdelaine said he’s excited to join the City and be part of the leadership team.

“I’m looking forward to opening lines of communication in different departments and being a true partner in serving the citizens of Columbia,” he said.  “I’d like to utilize organizational analytics to make the operation of the organization more effective and more efficient.”

Chapdelaine has an abundance of experience in information technology and has received numerous leadership awards over the past several years. He received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Colorado. Chapdelaine’s first day with the City will be Dec. 7.
