Vehicle collision with fuel leak on I-70 at Stadium
COLUMBIA, MO (December 8, 2015) - At 6:48 a.m. on Tuesday, December 08, 2015 the Columbia Fire Department responded to a non-injury vehicle collision on I-70 at Stadium Boulevard. Several 9-1-1 callers reported a car and semi-truck collided and the semi-truck went into the median from the west bound lanes into the east bound lanes.
Columbia firefighters arrived at 6:55 a.m. and confirmed there were no injuries; however, one of the saddle tanks on the semi-truck was leaking fuel.
Firefighters worked with MO-DOT to mitigate the spill and leak. They were able to contain the leak from the tank, pump the remaining fuel out of the tank and use pads and booms to contain the fuel and oil in the ditch.
Fire units were on the scene for approximately 2 hours.
The Columbia Fire Department reminds all residents that seat belts save lives. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
