Morning Fire Damages Home

COLUMBIA, MO (January 23, 2015) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 4108 Valleywood Court at 9:03am on Friday, January 23, 2015.

Units arrived on the scene less than four minutes later and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the garage.

Fire crews performed an aggressive fire attack using pre-connected hose lines and brought the event under control in approximately thirty minutes.  Crews were able to contain the majority of the fire to the garage and attic area above the garage.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.  One cat was rescued during fire fighting operations, given oxygen and taken by animal control to a veterinarian for further evaluation.  A second cat was found safe after the fire was brought under control.

Fire investigators are on the scene performing an origin and cause investigation.  Further information will be released when it becomes available.

Seven units from the Columbia Fire Department and one ambulance responded to this call.
