City of Columbia to honor volunteers Thursday evening

COLUMBIA, MO (July 7, 2015) - The City of Columbia will be recognizing the efforts of volunteers who have contributed to municipal government Thursday evening, July 9, beginning at 6 p.m. at Stephens Lake Park. The event will occur in conjunction with the Stephens Lake Park Amphitheater Concert Series featuring the Columbia Community Band at 7 p.m. Those who have volunteered with the City of Columbia since January 1, 2014 have been invited. 

Volunteers serve the City in numerous ways, including working in our parks, beautifying our streets, picking up litter, teaching the public about recycling, helping at festivals and special events, and keeping our community safe.  

During the City’s 2014 fiscal year that ended September 30, volunteers contributed 35,259 hours toward city programs and projects.  Based on a national value for volunteer service, these hours are worth nearly $800,000.
