MAY IS NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH
COLUMBIA, MO (May 4, 2015) - The Columbia Police Department Traffic Unit wants to remind all motorists that May is National Safety Motorcycle Awareness Month. It is good opportunity to remind drivers to watch for and share the road with motorcycles. Many motorcycle crashes occur when other motorists turn left in front of an oncoming motorcycle or while changing lanes. Take a second and third look for motorcycles. Missouri law requires all motorcycle riders to have their motorcycle license and to wear an approved DOT helmet.
Motorcyclists can obtain their motorcycle endorsement in two ways:
Pass a written test and a road test at a DMV service center. Successfully complete an eligible rider education course that waives the requirement for the DMV road test. More information about rider education courses—from beginner to advanced—is available online at www.mmsp.org
Media inquiries can be directed to a Columbia Police Department PIO.
Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility.
