Fire Damages Shakespears Pizza in South Columbia

COLUMBIA, MO (November 7, 2015) - At 4:48 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015, the Columbia Fire Department responded to a reported commercial structure fire at 3911 Peachtree Drive. 

Columbia Firefighters arrived at 4:54 a.m. to find smoke visible from the front of the business. Firefighters entered the structure simultaneously from the front and rear and quickly extinguished the fire. 

Assistant Fire Marshall Mike Bauer determined the caused to be the towel dryer behind the kitchen. The dryer has fire damage and the structure has some smoke damage. There were no injuries and a dollar damage estimate has not yet been determined.  

Three engines, a ladder, and a rescue squad responded to the incident.  Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor.
