Columbia Regional Airport Sees Record Month for Passenger Traffic
COLUMBIA, MO (November 13, 2015) - Columbia Regional Airport set a monthly record for passenger traffic in October 2015. From October 1 through October 31, 12,017 passengers moved through COU via enplanement or deplanement.
Airport Manager Don Elliott, who has been employeed at Columbia Regional Airport since 1982 stated, "Passenger counts in October 2015 were at record highs since the airport opened in 1968. We attribute the strong demand to a better overall economy and being able to provide passengers the choice of destinations between two of the largest airport hubs in the United States."
5,974 passengers enplaned while 6,043 passengers deplaned at COU in October 2015. Total enplanements for 2015 as of October 31 sit at 53,793. This already surpasses the 2014 total enplanements at COU which totaled 53,080.
"In addition to great destinations and connections for mid-Missouri passengers, we have been adding some often requested and much needed passenger amenities at COU", said Drew Brooks, Multi-modal Manager for the city of Columbia. "The addition of a restroom in the secured passenger area of the terminal and the recent addition of a snack bar, combined with free parking and free Wi-Fi, make COU very attractive to air travellers."
Columbia Regional Airport continues to work towards goals set forth in the 2009 Airport Master Plan. This month, construction is scheduled to be completed on the first phase of several main runway and crosswind runway improvement projects. In addition, Parsons - Brinckerhoff is working to complete the Terminal Area Master Plan to help guide the community in determining future air terminal needs.
City of Columbia Vision statement: "Columbia is the best place for everyone to work, live, learn, and play."
Improvements at Columbia Regional Airport meet the following core values of the city of Columbia; Service, Communication, Continuous Improvement, Integrity, Teamwork, and Stewardship.
