PUBLIC HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES OFFERING INJECTABLE FLU VACCINE
COLUMBIA, MO (November 23, 2015) - (COLUMBIA, MO) – As the holiday season draws near, the public is reminded of the importance of getting their flu vaccine. Each year, the flu vaccine prevents flu-associated illnesses and hospitalizations due to those illnesses. Anyone over the age of six months is encouraged to be vaccinated.
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services has flu vaccine available for anyone age six months or older. Injectable flu vaccine is available Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at our clinic, located at 1005 West Worley. No appointment is needed; walk-ins are welcome. The FluMist® vaccine will be available at a later date.
This year, thanks to generous support from MU Children’s Hospital and the David B. Lichtenstein Foundation, we can provide free seasonal flu vaccine (injectable and FluMist® when available) to all children age six months through 18 years of age. Funding and support from these community organizations will also allow public health nurses to conduct flu clinics in participating Boone County elementary, middle and high schools this fall. Parents who have questions about their school’s participation should contact their school nurse.
For adults ages 19 and older, cost of the injectable vaccine is $25. We have the ability to bill a wide variety of insurances. Our clinic also accepts cash, check and debit/credit cards. Receipts can be given upon request. For more information on the insurance providers accepted through the VaxCare billing system, please visit http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/Health/Clinic_and_Nursing/MissouriInsuranceList.php. Special programs are available for those without insurance.
