Compost workshops will be held at Earth Day
COLUMBIA, MO (April 19, 2016) - The City of Columbia Volunteer Programs announces the start of the 2016 compost workshop schedule on Sunday, April 24 at the Earth Day celebration in Peace Park. The workshop will be held at 12:30pm and 3:00pm in the tent located at 6th and Elm. The workshop is led by volunteers with experience and expertise in home composting.
Compostable materials make up 34% of the material that goes into the landfill. Composting is nature’s way of recycling. Residents who attend the workshop will receive a free composting bin to start diverting kitchen scraps and yard wastes from the landfill while producing a nutrient rich fertilizer.
Additional workshops will be held in 2016; the next will be Tuesday, May 17 ,at 6 p.m. at the City’s compost demonstration site at Capen Park. For a complete workshop schedule or to register, go online to CoMo.gov (search: composting ) or contact Jody Cook, Volunteer Programs Specialist at 573-874-6271 or Jody.Cook at CoMo.gov.
