CPD announces the 2015 Employees of the Year

COLUMBIA, MO (April 26, 2016) - Today, the Columbia Police Department held the 7th Annual Employee Awards Ceremony. The ceremony was followed by a celebration with cake and punch for the nominees and winners which was sponsored by the Columbia Police Foundation. The awards were presented in the following categories: Civilian of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, and Molly Suzanne Thomas Bowden Officer of the Year. Each award is presented to those who have demonstrated exemplary conduct and excellence in performance of duties.

2015 Civilian of the Year: Erin Hull

Ms. Hull began with the department in August 2007 serving as a Community Service Aide (CSA). In 2012 she was promoted to a Payroll Specialist for the department managing timesheets and payroll, among several other tasks. She oftentimes spends long days working to ensure things run smoothly for department personnel and is an outstanding asset to this department.

2015 Rookie of the Year: Officer Phillip Moesel

Officer Moesel began with the department in May 2015 after serving his country for 10 years as a U.S. Marine. He regularly displays kindness, compassion, courage, and understanding in every interaction he has with the citizens of Columbia, as well as his peers. He has been a wonderful addition to this department and we look forward to working many more years with him!

Supervisor of the Year: Sergeant Scott Hedrick

Sgt. Hedrick began his career with the department in February 1998. Since day one, Sgt. Hedrick has consistently displayed a willingness to help in any form. He currently supervises the K-9 Unit, as well as the overnight Red Squad. His team emphasizes that as a supervisor, Sgt. Hedrick not only looks after the needs of his officers at work, but also in their home life. He provides a listening ear and offers sound advice in any circumstance. Sgt. Hedrick is a tremendous asset to the employees of this department, and the department as a whole.

Molly Suzanne Thomas Bowden Officer of the Year: Detective Kim Green

Detective Green began her career with the department in June 2006 as a police officer. She served in several capacities including a Patrol Officer, Motor Unit Officer, and recently as a Detective in the Criminal Investigations Division. Detective Green investigates several types of incidents, but most notably has worked extensively to solve complicated cases with several victims and suspects. She is dedicated to her investigations to the highest level and demonstrates the utmost care in seeking justice for her victims. Detective Green is a true asset to the investigative unit and this department overall.

All award winners received a commemorative watch and plaque purchased by the Columbia Police Foundation from Tucker's Fine Jewelry and D-Sport, respectively. Additionally, each nominee and winner received a gift certificate from the City of Columbia as part of the Employee Incentive Reward Program.

History of the Molly Suzanne Thomas Bowden Officer of the Year -

The award is in memory of Officer Molly Bowden who was shot while conducting a traffic stop on January 10, 2005. Officer Bowden succumbed to her wounds and died on February 10, 2005; she served honorably with the department for 3.5 years and was the first and only officer at our department to be killed in the line of duty.

We are very proud of all the nominees and winners for these awards. A very special thank you to our sponsors of the event: Columbia Police Foundation and Central Bank of Boone County.
