INCIDENT DETAILS:
The crash occurred as vehicle #1, a 2003 Ford Taurus, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 63 near Discovery Parkway. Vehicle #2, a 2005 Subaru, was traveling northbound on U.S. 63 in the inside lane of travel. Vehicle #3, a 2006 Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on U.S. 63 in the outside lane. Vehicle #4, a 2011 Nissan Rouge, was traveling northbound on U.S. 63 in the inside lane behind vehicle #3. Vehicle #5, a 2007 Toyota Prius, was traveling northbound on U.S. 63 in the inside lane behind vehicle #4. As vehicle #1 approached vehicles 2, 3, 4, and 5, vehicle #2 swerved to the right to avoid vehicle #1. This caused vehicle #2 to lose control and run off the roadway to the left. Vehicle #3 pulled onto the shoulder to avoid vehicle #1. Vehicle #4 swerved to the right to try and avoid vehicle #1 but was spun into vehicle #3. Vehicle #4 then ran off the roadway to the right. Vehicle #5 was unable to avoid v
ehicle #1 which resulted in a head on crash. Driver 1, Passenger 1, and Driver 5 were transported to the hospital for serious injuries. Drivers 2, 3, and 4 were uninjured. Contributing factors in the crash are still under investigation to include why vehicle #1 was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.
