Fire Damages residence in east Columbia

COLUMBIA, MO (February 9, 2016) - At 2:34 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016, the Columbia Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire at 2256 Country Lane. The 911 caller reported a possible flue fire.

Columbia Firefighters arrived at 2:42 a.m. to find smoke visible from the chimney.

Firefighters entered the structure and found fire in the chimney and in the walls of the home.

There were no injuries and a dollar damage estimate has not yet been determined. Fire units are still on the scene and the fire is currently being investigated.

Three engines, a ladder, and a rescue squad responded to the incident. 

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor.
