Household Hazardous Waste Facility opens Saturday

COLUMBIA, MO (March 29, 2016) - The City of Columbia announces the opening of the Household Hazardous Waste Facility Saturday, April 2. Residents can take hazardous waste to the facility at 1313 Lakeview Ave. the first and third Saturdays April through November from 8 a.m. to noon.  

This program provides residents a legal and cost-free way to dispose of unwanted household chemicals and paint that cannot be disposed of in the regular trash. Hazardous waste products cannot be picked up curbside. The facility is for residential use only; commercial waste is not accepted. 

For more information, contact the Solid Waste Division at (573) 874-2489 or go online to Como.gov (search: GoHHW) for a list of items the facility accepts. 

Volunteers assist the City in operating the collection by greeting and directing the public and stirring paint. To learn more about volunteering, call 874-6271.
