Parks and Recreation employees to be trained in Tree Risk Assessment

COLUMBIA, MO (May 5, 2016) - Four Columbia Parks and Recreation employees will receive Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) training in Leawood Kansas, May 12-14. The training is a result of funding provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Tree Resource Improvement & Maintenance (TRIM) grant.

TRAQ is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) qualification program that trains arborists how to use the methodologies outlined in the ISA Best Management Practices for Tree Risk Assessment. This qualification promotes the safety of people and property by providing a standardized and systematic process for assessing tree risk. The results of a tree risk assessment can provide Columbia Parks and Recreation arborists with the information to make informed decisions to enhance park tree benefits, health and longevity.

The qualification consists of a 2-day educational course followed by a half-day assessment that includes both a written and field component. It is required that arborists attend the course and successfully complete the assessment in order to earn TRAQ credentials.
