Dear Vision Partners -

Implement of Columbia's vision plan continues to move forward. The
Columbia City Council approved the ordinance to establish the Columbia
Vision Commission during the City Council meeting, Monday, October 6,
2008. The following press release contains important information
regarding the ordinance and the application process. Applications are
due in the City Clerk office no later than noon, Friday, November 7.

The Vision plan identified a collective desire for Columbia to be a
connected, informed and engaged community. The establishment of the
Columbia Vision Commission is an important step in turning vision goals
into community actions. You can help by submitting your application, or
nominating someone to serve on the Columbia Vision Committee.

Best regards,

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 8, 2008

Applications are being accepted for Columbia Vision Commission

(COLUMBIA, MO) -- The City Clerk’s Office is accepting applications
for the Columbia Vision Commission. The purpose of this new commission
is to track, monitor and assist with the implementation of the community
visioning process by conducting periodic reviews and issuing an annual
report on the progress of visioning implementation to the community. In
addition, in the future, this commission will recommend implementation
tasks and offer public education and outreach programs.

The commission will consist of:

● Seven coordinating committee members, including two who are
residents of Boone County
not residing within the city limits of Columbia, all of whom will be
appointed by the Council; and

● Up to five resource members, all of whom will be appointed by the
Council.

Candidates for coordinating committee positions must have demonstrated
a commitment to the visioning process. Candidates for coordinating
committee positions and for resource member positions will be evaluated
on their ability to work with data and understand systematic
relationships; their ability to work collaboratively; their management
skills; their independence; existing memberships or positions; and
contributions to the diversity of the commission.

Resource members would help in the work of the commission and share
their expertise in one or more substantive areas, such as (but not
limited to) data collection, fund raising, intergovernmental
cooperation, management and process design.

Citizens and organizations may nominate candidates for the commission
by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at cityclerk at GoColumbiaMo.com or
(573) 874-7207, and providing contact information for the person they
would like to nominate. Those nominated will be contacted and asked to
submit an application. Nominations must be received by noon on Friday,
Oct. 31, to allow time for that person to complete and submit the
application by its corresponding deadline date.

Self-nominations will be acceptable as well. An application form can be
completed and submitted directly to the City Clerk’s Office for
self-nominations. Applications can be obtained at the City Clerk’s
Office or can be found on the city’s Web site:
