Boards and commissions applications are available

	(COLUMBIA, MO) -- The Columbia city clerk is accepting
applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received
by the clerk's office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday,
Sept. 3, 2004. Applications are available at the clerk's office or may
be found on the city's Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City
Council page. The following are current boards and commissions
openings:

The Building Construction Codes Commission has two vacancies with terms
to expire Aug. 1, 2007. One alternate member (to serve in the absence of
a regular member) is needed from the master plumber category and one is
needed from the professional engineer category (structural/civil).
Members must be registered voters. Monthly meetings are on call.

The Convention & Visitors Advisory Board has seven vacancies with terms
to expire Sept. 30, 2007. Three members must be owners or operators of a
hotel or motel within the city limits. All must be Columbia residents,
registered voters and have demonstrated by past activities an interest
in the convention and tourism business. 

The Board of Health has two vacancies with one term to expire Aug. 31,
2005, and the other to expire Aug. 31, 2007. The first must be a dentist
and the second a veterinarian. Both must be registered voters of the
city. Monthly meetings are called by the board.

The Internet Citizens Advisory Group has two vacancies with terms to
expire Oct. 15, 2007. Members shall make recommendations to the staff
and City Council on resource priority for the city's effective
utilization of the Internet, in addition to serving as a focus group to
assess the user-friendliness and effectiveness of the city's Internet
activities.

The Library Board of Directors has one vacancy to be appointed by the
mayor with the term to expire June 30, 2005. The member must reside
within the Library District. Duties included appointing the librarian
and overseeing expenditures of library fund monies.

The Mayor's Physical Fitness & Health Committee has one vacancy to be
appointed by the mayor. The committee shall educate the public about the
importance of regular physical fitness activity; and promote, initiate
and encourage local physical fitness and sports programs in the
community.

The New Century Fund Board of Directors has two vacancies with terms to
expire Sept. 30, 2007. Members should have an interest in the future of
the city of Columbia and the funding needs to achieve future success and
be qualified voters of the city. Experience with fund-raising, grant
writing and organizing special events would be helpful.

The Personnel Advisory Board has two vacancies with terms to expire
Sept. 30, 2007. Members shall be registered voters of the city and shall
hold no other lucrative position in city government during their term.
Members must have significant, substantive knowledge of social,
legislative, political and administrative factors affecting personnel
management and employee relations.
