City receives $73,750 Federal Transit Administration grant
(COLUMBIA, MO) - Congressman Kenny Hulshof's office announced
that the city of Columbia's Public Works Department will receive a
$73,750 grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), which is
partial payment of a $98,226 grant. The remainder of the money will be
released soon.
The grant will be used for the purchase of two vans and
associated equipment for the city's Paratransit Division. The grant
involves 80 percent from the FTA and a 20 percent match paid by the
city. Purchase cost for the vans is about $91,464. The city's portion
is included in the 2004 Capital Improvement Plan.
"I appreciate the efforts of Congressman Hulshof and his staff
on behalf of the city of Columbia," said Ray Beck, city manager.
"The paratransit vans are an important part of our total
transportation system and the new vans will be of great benefit to our
customers who rely on this valuable service."
The grant will use Fiscal Year 2004 Section 5309 capital
investment bus funds earmarked by Congress.
