Sanford-Kimpton Building dedication ceremony and grand opening event

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The city of Columbia and Boone County will
officially dedicate the Sanford-Kimpton building located at 1005 West
Worley Street on Monday, Oct. 18 (corner of West Worley and West
Boulevard). The facility now houses the Columbia/Boone County Health
Department and the Family Health Center. The building is named in honor
of the years of dedicated service to public health from former
Columbia/Boone County Health Department Director Mike Sanford and
longtime Public Health Nurse Addie Kimpton.

The Health Department provides population-based services that prevent
disease and promote the health of Columbia Boone County residents. The
new facility provides a variety of new conveniences including:

Ample, free public parking

Updated and increased patient exam/interview rooms

Large community meeting room and conference rooms

Professional demonstration kitchen

Expanded waiting room areas

The Family Health Center provides primary care services to between 550
and 600 patients a week. The staff includes physicians and nurse
practitioners. Services are offered to those without insurance based on
sliding fee scale which is determined by family income levels. The
Family Health Center has recently been accepted to participate in a
health disparity collaborative that is a national quality improvement
effort to address chronic disease. The Family Health Center will focus
on the disparities associated with diabetes.

The public is invited to join the Health Department and the Family
Health Center in dedicating their new facilities and celebrating the
grand opening with community resources for residents of all ages.

Event attractions and activities include: building tours, fire safety
demonstration house from the Boone County Fire District, live music,
emergency response equipment from the city/county Office of Emergency
Management, Daniel Boone Regional Library Bookmobiles, and city of
Columbia Police and Fire safety information and equipment.

The grand opening event will be held from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. The official
dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting will begin at 4:30 p.m. For more
information, please call the Columbia/Boone County Health Department at
