Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre will charm audiences at the Festival

COLUMBIA, MO (September 10, 2004) -- The city's Office of Cultural
Affairs (OCA) has received a grant from the Heartland Arts Fund. The
award will support upcoming performances of the Eulenspeigel Puppet
Theatre at the Columbia Festival of the Arts.

This will be the first time Eulenspeigel Puppet Theatre has been
featured at the Festival. Performance times are 1:30 p.m. on Saturday,
Sept. 25, and 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26. Both will occur on the
Children's Stage and are free of charge.

Eulenspeigel was founded in 1974 and is known for its witty scripts,
original and expressive puppet designs, soft-sculpted and hand dyed
scenery and strong graphics. Based in West Liberty, Iowa, they tour
nationally and internationally. In 2000, Eulenspiegel was honored as an
Iowa Arts Award recipient.

While in Columbia, Eulenspeigel puppeteers will hold a free puppetry
workshop at the Columbia Public Library, 100 West Broadway. The
workshop, "How to Make and Perform with Shadow Puppets", is
scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Eulenspiegel
puppeteers will take adult and teen participants through the process of
making shadow puppets and performing a simple folktale. They will also
show participants how to make a collapsible tabletop shadow stage.
Registration begins Tuesday, Sept. 14; contact the library's
Children's Desk at (573) 817-7160.

The Columbia performances and workshop are supported by the Heartland
Arts Fund, a program of Mid-America Arts Alliance funded by the National
Endowment for the Arts with additional contributions from the Missouri
Arts Council, Courtney S. Turner Charitable Trust, and foundations,
corporations and individuals throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri,
Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.

For specific performance times and stage locations, consult the special
Festival insert in the Columbia Daily Tribune's Sept. 23 issue, call
the OCA at 573-874-6386, e-mail Festival at GoColumbiaMo.com, or log on to
