Festival features child's artwork on promotional materials

COLUMBIA, MO (September 10, 2004) -- The thirteenth annual Columbia
Festival of the Arts will bring performing, visual and literary artists
to downtown Columbia on Sept. 25-26.

For the first time this year, all Festival promotional items --
T-shirts, posters, flyers and buttons -- will highlight the artwork of
Columbia Public Schools student Aubriana Nichols, now a second grader at
Two-Mile Prairie Elementary School. Aubriana is the daughter of Jeff and
Diana Nichols.

Aubriana created the image last year while a student of Traci Bolda.
The painting was the result of a classroom project studying the
well-known artist, Vincent Van Gogh. Aubriana used Van Gogh's famous
painting, Starry Night, as her inspiration. Aubriana was six years old
when she created her painting.

Aubriana's work was selected by the Office of Cultural Affairs after
it was displayed downtown during the 2004 Partners in Education Week.
Future works will be selected from the Youth Art Exhibit of the Festival
that is located in the lobby of the Boone County Government Center
during the Festival weekend and throughout the month of October.

The Festival is free and open to the public. It will be held at the
Boone County Courthouse Square and surrounding streets in downtown
Columbia on Sept. 25-26. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both
days.

For more information, including a map and stage schedules, consult the
special Festival insert in the Columbia Daily Tribune's Sept. 23 issue
or contact the Office of Cultural Affairs at 573-874-6386, e-mail
Festival at GoColumbiaMo.com or log on to www.GoColumbiaMo.com (GoWord:
