The Columbia Channel wins two national awards
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Channel, the government access
channel for the city of Columbia, was recently awarded two Telly Awards.
The Telly Awards began in 1980 as a way to recognize programs and
commercials that were produced by non-network professionals. There were
more than 10,000 entries in this year's competition from all 50 states
and many foreign countries. The competition had winners last year from
firms who produced videos for clients like The History Channel and
MSNBC. The Telly has become a very prestigious award in the video
field.
One Telly award, in the commercial category, was for a public
service announcement about Columbia Water and Light's centennial
celebration. The commercial combined key messages from the centennial
campaign and used a collage of old photos to recognize the utility's
milestone. The other video, Columbia's Cold Case Files, won in the
documentary category. The video features several previously unsolved
criminal cases that were reviewed using technologies that are now
available to the Police Department. Producers of the Columbia Water and
Light centennial commercial were Don Cizek, Connie Kacprowicz and Scott
Keaster. Steve Hudnell and Beth Federici produced the Columbia's Cold
Case Files video.
Each entry for the Telly awards is rated by judges from across
the nation on a 10-point scale. Entries do not compete against each
other but are judged on their own merit. Videos with a score of above
9.0 are winners and those rated 7.0 to 8.9 are finalists. Approximately
7-10 percent of the entrants are chosen as winners and 18-25 percent are
chosen as finalists. This is comparable to other national competitions.
Both the Columbia Channel entries were rated as Telly Award finalists.
The Columbia Channel is broadcast on Mediacom channel 13 and
Charter Communications channel 2.
