Health services available for area residents losing Medicaid or MC+ coverage
(COLUMBIA, MO) - Approximately 2,000 Boone County residents will lose their Medicaid or MC+ coverage effective June 30, 2005. The Columbia/Boone County Health Department provides a number of affordable services to women with and without insurance coverage. These services include:
* Well Woman Exams are open to any permanent Boone County resident who does not have access to Student Health Services. Services are provided on a sliding fee scale, based upon household income. Exam cost may range from $6.25 to $25.
* Birth control, including emergency contraception, is available at a significantly reduced cost.
* STD testing and treatment and HIV testing are offered at no cost to anyone.
Residents who are in need of these services should call the Health Department at (573) 874-7356 or visit the Health Department at 1005 W. Worley. Residents will need to provide: photo identification, Social Security cards for all household members, income verification for all household members, and proof of Boone County residency (utility bill, lease voter registration card, etc.).
Women can take simple steps every day to protect themselves against illness and disease. It is important to get appropriate health screenings to find potential problems early and get proper treatment to prevent more serious problems later.
