Boards and commissions applications are available
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia city clerk is accepting applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received by the clerk's office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday, March 11. Applications are available at the clerk's office or may be found on the city's Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City Council page. The following are current boards and commissions openings:
* The Bicycle/Pedestrian Commission has one vacancy with the term to expire July 31, 2006. The member must be a registered voter of the city of Columbia and have knowledge of bicycling and/or bicycle safety and/or bikeways. Monthly meetings are the third Wednesday at 7 p.m.
* The Board of Adjustment (Alternate) has one vacancy for an alternate with the term to expire Nov. 1, 2007. Alternates are asked to serve in the absence of regular members. Members are responsible for hearing and deciding appeals where it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of the zoning, planning and subdividing ordinances. Monthly meetings are the second Tuesday at 7 p.m.
* The C.A.R.E. Advisory Board has one vacancy with the term to expire March 1, 2008. The member must have an interest in the promotion of the program to current and prospective employers in Columbia and Boone County.
* The Community Development Commission has one vacancy with the term to expire Nov. 1, 2007. The member must be a registered voter from Ward 5. Commission members shall not serve on the board of directors or be employed by any agency which applies for funding through the commission or which receives funding upon recommendation of the commission.
* The Cultural Affairs Commisson has four vacancies with terms to expire April 1, 2008. One member must be a layperson; one from the business and professional community from a business or professional office in the special business district; and the other two may be from the business and professional community, possessing significant knowledge and demonstrated interest in one or more areas of the arts, involved in elementary or secondary education, or a layperson.
* The Board of Health has one vacancy with the term to expire Aug. 31, 2005. The member must be a dentist, as well as a registered voter of the city. Monthly meetings are called by the board.
* The Railroad Advisory Board has one vacancy with the term to expire July 15, 2005. The member shall have knowledge and interest in either railroad, shipping, transportation or business and shall be sympathetic with the principle of municipal ownership and operation of branch line railroads. Monthly meetings are the second Thursday at 7:30 a.m.
* Sustainable Farms Board of Directors has one vacancy with the term to expire Dec. 31, 2007. Members are responsible for overseeing the future construction, maintenance and operations of a farmers market community center. Sustainable Farms & Communities Inc. is a Missouri not-for-profit corporation.
