Cleanup Columbia approaching on April 9

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Cleanup Columbia, one of Columbia's largest
single-day volunteer activities, will be held on Saturday, April 9.
Cleanup Columbia is a citywide event where residents volunteer to pick
up trash along streets and in parks.
This year's event, the 9th annual, has nearly 120 registered
groups and 1,400 volunteers planning to participate. There is still
opportunity for others to volunteer.
"Regardless of how many volunteers we have for Cleanup
Columbia, there are always more streets that need attention," said
Leigh Nutter, volunteer coordinator for the city of Columbia.
"Citizens are welcome to participate to help make Columbia look
great and also to share with us streets that need attention during the
event."
This year, citizens have had an opportunity to report areas that
need attention during Cleanup Columbia through an online form on the
city's Web site. The Office of Volunteer Services welcomes additional
suggestions for cleanup locations.
Sponsors for Cleanup Columbia include Atkins, APAC-Missouri
Division, Columbia Daily Tribune, 102.3 BXR, KOMU TV-8, WB 5, and
CenturyTel.
To learn more about Cleanup Columbia or to register, call the
city's Office of Volunteer Services at 874-7499 or visit
www.GoColumbiaMo.com. The deadline to register is Friday, April 1.
