Home owner injured while moving burning grill

COLUMBIA, MO (March 11, 2006) -- On Saturday, March 11, at 7:28 p.m.,
units of the Columbia Fire Department responded to a report of a
residential structure fire at 1713 Kenilworth Dr. 

By the time units arrived on the scene the fire (which started near a
gas grill) had been extinguished by the home owner and a neighbor who
assisted with a garden hose. The fire caused damage to the siding and
deck.

Prior to the fire department's arrival, the home owner received 1st and
2nd degree burns to his forearms, chest and face while attempting to
move the grill. He was later transported to University Hospital and
Clinics where he will receive treatment for his injuries. No other
information regarding his condition is available at this time.

Initial damage estimates to the exterior of the residence and grill are
$5,000. Fire investigators on the scene stated that the cause is still
under investigation.

The Columbia Fire Department would like to remind everyone to be
cautious and attentive when cooking with any type of grill on a wooden
deck or near your residence.
