City volunteers will be recognized May 3
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The city of Columbia will recognize the efforts
of hundreds of volunteers who have contributed to the city at a
reception on Tuesday, May 3, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Reichmann
Pavilion at Stephens Lake Park, 2300 E. Walnut.
Mayor Darwin Hindman is scheduled to share greetings with
volunteers and will recognize the city's Volunteers of the Month for
2005. The event will be emceed by Steve Donofrio, the "Radio Ranger"
from KOPN radio.
Volunteers assist the city in a variety of ways, from helping
with festivals, patrolling our streets and trails, teaching others about
recycling, and beautifying our community through Adopt-A-Spot programs.
During the city's 2005 fiscal year that ended Sept. 30,
volunteers contributed 43,019 hours toward city programs and projects.
The financial benefit of city of Columbia volunteer hours is estimated
at $754,983.45, based on a national value of $17.55 per hour.
