Celebrity Bike/Car Challenge * the first event of Bike, Walk and
Wheel
Week
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The 2nd Annual Celebrity Bike/Car Challenge
will be held Friday, May 5, at 11:30 a.m. at the Alpine Shop, corner of
Hitt and Broadway. This event is designed to raise public awareness of
Bike, Walk & Wheel Week and to display the ease of commuting by bicycle.

Confirmed celebrities are: John Bassford (KMIZ), John Darkow
(The Columbia Daily Tribune), Mayor Darwin Hindman, Jeff Huffman (KMIZ),
Coaches Susan and Wayne Kreklow (MU Women's Volleyball), Michelle Linn
(KMIZ), Linda LaFontaine (President, Columbia Track Club), David Lile
(KFRU), MU Golden Girls and Cammy Ronchetto (Eco-Challenge adventure
racer).
New to this year's event is a celebrity "play-by-play"
announcer, who will be Darren Hellwege from KBIA. He will provide
spectators on the patio at Willie's Pub and Pool with funny anecdotes
and/or comments from the celebrities, relayed to him by representatives
at each token stop.
Token stops are: The Columbia Daily Tribune, Columbia Public
Library, Cyclextreme, D Sport, First National Bank, The Main Squeeze and
Walt's Bike Shop.
	Guidelines for the celebrities include:
*	All contestants will begin at the same time.
*	This is not a timed challenge-no bonus will be given to those
finishing first.
*	Those driving vehicles must park legally and turn off ignitions.
They must also get out of their cars to pick up the tokens at each
establishment.
*	Bikers must follow the rules of the road, wear helmets, avoid
riding on sidewalks downtown and lock up their bikes before entering
each establishment.
*	Celebrities may visit each establishment in the order they wish.

*	At each token stop, celebrities should relay any comments about
the challenge experience to a representative at the business. These
representatives will be phoning in reports of celebrities' progress to
increase the fun for spectators.
*	Celebrities must participate in any additional challenge the
businesses may have set up for them before earning the coveted token.
