Joint downtown planning partnership holds second public forum at Tiger
Hotel
WHAT: A joint planning partnership involving the University of
Missouri, Stephens College and the city of Columbia will hold a public
forum to discuss potential development opportunities involving the
campuses and downtown Columbia.
WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 7 - 9 p.m.
WHERE: Historic Tiger Hotel, top floor, 23 South 8th Street
PROGRAM: This continues a public discussion that started Aug. 29 at the
first public forum with Sasaki Associates, Inc., the consultant hired to
advise the partnership. Wednesdays meeting will include:
* A recap of the planning projects background and purpose;
* A summary of comments and observations from the Aug. 29 meeting;
* Characteristics of a 21st century knowledge city;
* Land use and urban design analysis of the downtown study area;
* Land use and development opportunities and sites within the area;
and
* Brief case studies on lessons from other cities.
Background: This is the first partnership ever undertaken by Stephens,
the University and the city of Columbia. If the partners agree to a
plan, there is the potential to create an attractive, energetic zone
that meshes the education and commercial communities. Sasaki has a
strong track record with similar projects in other cities that house
college campuses.
