Columbia is third best metro for business and careers
COLUMBIA, MO (April 13, 2007) -- A special report posted on forbes.com
this month ranked Columbia the third best metro for business and careers
in metros with populations under 232,000.
Rankings were based nine factors: number of colleges in the area, cost
of doing business, cost of living, crime rate, culture and leisure,
educational attainment of residents, income growth, job growth and net
migration.
Columbia fared extremely well in the number of colleges and educational
attainment of residents.
Four other Missouri communities were ranked in the small metro
division: Jefferson City (40th), Joplin (108th) and St. Joseph (121st).
Missouri communities with populations over 232,000 ranked as follows:
Springfield
(29th), St. Louis (67th) and Kansas City (95th). Forbes’ 2006 study
ranked Columbia number 16.
First place in the large and small metro divisions were Raleigh, NC and
