Weather takes its toll on electric
system

(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Sunday, Aug. 12, 7,500 Columbia Water &
Light customers experienced a power outage due to high wind speeds.
Around 11:30 p.m. the wind caused trees to fall, bringing down electric
lines all over Columbia. Wind also whipped large power lines around each
other at the Rebel Hills substation on the east side of Columbia causing
circuits to go out. Seven Columbia Water & Light crews have been working
all night to restore power. Monday morning there were approximately 500
people without power.
“When you drive around town this morning and see all the trees
and limbs down, it is amazing that our electric system did not have more
damage,” said Dan Dasho, director of Columbia Water & Light. “We
appreciate our customers’ patience while our crews are working
diligently to get everybody back up and running. It takes time to get
trees out of the way and repair all the lines that are down.”
