Storms keep Columbia firefighters busy

COLUMBIA, MO (August 13, 2007) - During and after the wind storms that
began around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, Columbia firefighters have
responded to more than 40 calls for services as of 9 a.m. this morning.

The calls break down like this:

30 calls for lines down (This includes power lines, telephone lines,
and cable t.v. lines.)

7 transformer fires

6 natural cover fires (These were caused by power lines arcing and
catching the very dry grass and mulch on fire. All were very minor.)

1 fire alarm (This turned out to be a false alarm probably because of a
power outage.)

There were no injuries to report.
