Electric crews help restore power in Sullivan
(COLUMBIA, MO) - Two electric crews from Columbia Water and Light left for Sullivan, Mo., on Monday, Jan. 15, to aid with power restoration efforts. Columbia has a mutual aid agreement with the Missouri Public Utility Alliance which enables participating utilities to easily help each other during widespread outages. The Columbia crews will stay in Sullivan for as long as they are needed.
The Columbia electric system survived the weekend winter storms with only a few minor problems. Dan Dasho, director of Columbia Water and Light, said, We saw a few transformers fail over the weekend but we cant tie the problems directly to the weather. We really lucked out that the storms we experienced did not cause major ice buildup on the trees or power lines. At this point I feel comfortable sending a few of our electric crews to help other utilities that were not as fortunate as we were.
Sullivan is 70 miles from St. Louis, near Meramec State Park. The city utility serves 3,000 customers. The Missouri Public Utility Alliance coordinates electric crews from around the state to places where extra assistance is needed.
