Council approves Black and Veatch contract
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The City Council voted Monday to accept a
proposal from Black & Veatch, a St. Louis engineering and consulting
firm, to provide conceptual designs for the expansion of Columbia’s
Wastewater Treatment Plant Facilities. Black and Veatch was selected
based on their understanding of the project requirements and their
experience with similar projects.
The agreement with Black & Veatch is for a study to determine
how to implement the expansion plan recommended in the Wastewater
Facilities Master Plan approved by the City Council in 2004. The scope
of the project will include a conceptual expansion plan for the
treatment plant site that addresses current and future needs, evaluating
various available alternatives for improving the facilities to
accommodate the year 2030 projected flows and loadings, and developing a
phased construction plan that allows the city to comply with anticipated
future permit requirements, including nutrient removal and disinfection.
Black & Veatch will also evaluate the city’s treatment wetlands to see
whether improvements can be made.
The consultants will begin work by the end of June. The contract
amount for Black and Veatch to complete conceptual designs is $674,000.
Public Works is aiming to begin construction in 2010. For more
information, contact Public Works at (573) 874-7250.
