Firefighters rescue one person and two cats from fire in north
Columbia

COLUMBIA, MO (March 21, 2007) -- At 2:41 p.m. on March 20, the Columbia
Fire Department received a report of a residential structure fire at
1501 Vandiver Dr., Lot 91 (Vandiver Village Trailer Court). Responding
units arrived within five minutes to find the trailer with smoke and
flames coming from the front door.

Firefighters quickly made entry and found the occupant of the trailer
attempting to extinguish the fire with water from the sink. Members of
Columbia Fire Department’s Ladder One crew escorted the occupant to
safety while other crews extinguished the fire in approximately five
minutes. Firefighters later found two pet cats that appeared to have no
injuries. The cats were turned over to management of Vandiver Village
Trailer Court.

The occupant was treated on the scene for minor injuries and was later
transported to Boone Hospital for further evaluation. Information
regarding the extent of occupant’s injuries or their condition is not
available at this time.

The cause and origin as well as the total dollar loss remain under
investigation at this time.
