October Community Circle - 'Staging a Response to Hate'

COLUMBIA, MO (October 25, 2007) - The Columbia Human Rights Commission
will present a free public showing of the documentary, “Staging a
Response to Hate,” part of the “Not in our Town” Series, on
Tuesday, Oct. 30, 6 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. It will be hosted at the Columbia
Public Library Friends Room.

The focus of this event will be on creating a better understanding
among Columbia citizens about the issues that confront individuals from
the LGBY (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Community. In the
documentary, cast members of a school production about the murder of a
gay student, Matthew Shepard, are confronted with a real-life version of
the story when a local transgender teen is murdered. The experience
became the catalyst for student, parents, residents and civic leaders to
take action against hate.

This event is part of an ongoing documentary and dialogue series
sponsored by the Columbia Human Rights Commission. There will be an
opportunity to listen and to engage in honest respectful dialogue. The
purpose is not to convince, convert, debate or argue. All citizens are
welcome, regardless of personal perspective or life experience.

Contact Nanette Ward at the Human Rights Commission at (573) 874-7488
or HRC at GoColumbiaMo.com for more information. Visit us on the Web at
