Early morning fire activates sprinkler system at residential care
facility - Update

COLUMBIA, MO (September 19, 2007) - Fire officials have determined the
cause of fire to be excessive lint buildup in the dryer. After
conducting a thorough investigation of the independent components of the
dryer, other causes have been ruled out. Lint buildup in dryers,
regardless of commercial or residential, is a common cause of these
types of fires.

After years of use, lint has the tendency to collect around the motor,
heating elements and exhaust vents. After time, these materials become
susceptible to ignition from heat sources produced by the dryer. Longer
drying times can be an indicator of possible lint buildup and can be
checked by the homeowner or authorized repair technicians. Proper
maintenance of appliances is very important in protecting citizens from
property loss and helps with energy savings.
