Incendiary fire causes damage to central Columbia home
COLUMBIA, MO (December 1, 2008) - Columbia firefighters were called at
8:11 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, to 412 Fourth Avenue for a report of a
residential structure fire. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and some
flames from the rear of the single-story home on the south side of
Fourth Avenue.
The house was vacant at the time of the fire. Damage was confined to
the rear exterior of the home with some fire extension into the crawl
space and fire damage to the kitchen door and window.
The fire was controlled in less than five minutes.
Fire investigators ruled out unintentional causes and have determined
that the fire was likely incendiary (set). Damage to the property is
estimated at $3,000 to $5,000.
Fire investigators are working with the Major Crimes Unit of the
Columbia Police Department. Anyone with information concerning this fire
is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS.
Fire investigators do not believe this fire was related to the fire
around 9:40 last evening on Elletta Boulevard.
