Columbia/Boone County Health Department hosts national foodborne team
training

COLUMBIA, MO (May 5, 2008) - The Columbia/Boone County Health
Department will host the national foodborne team training, Epi-Ready,
from May 6-8. This training will be held in Columbia and will also have
two remote sites in Kansas City and St. Louis, as well as a remote site
in Texas.

The training will be offered by the National Environmental Health
Association, in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention and the National Center for Infectious Diseases-Food Safety
Office.

Epi-Ready Team Training is a nationwide program that provides
up-to-date foodborne disease outbreak investigation and surveillance
training. Implementation strategies including educational materials,
interactive group exercises, question-and-answer sessions, lectures,
outbreak determination, environmental assessment, epidemiological
investigation, laboratory guidance and report writing will be used to
further the environmental health professionals’ education and
experience.

“We are very excited to host this training to several different
community members throughout the state as well as have guests from
neighboring states,” said Sarah Rainey, regional epidemiologist at the
Columbia/Boone County Health Department.

Fifty-four environmental health specialists, laboratory technicians,
epidemiologists, as well as other public health staff, are expected at
the Columbia/Boone County Health Department location. Teams for this
training had to apply and be approved.
