2010 Neighborhood Leadership Program concludes Tuesday evening
(COLUMBIA, MO) – Twenty-two Columbia residents will be recognized
Tuesday evening for their participation in the city of Columbia’s
Neighborhood Leadership Program. The final session in the eight-week
program will be held Tuesday, April 20, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Riechmann
Pavilion, 2300 E. Walnut.
At this final session, participants and other neighborhood association
leaders will hear from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Chris Belcher and
discuss how neighborhood groups can use social media as a communications
tool.
The Neighborhood Leadership Program, started in 2009, is an
eight-session series aimed at providing additional information on
Columbia’s municipal government and leadership development to those who
serve in a leadership role in their neighborhood organization, or have
an interest in being a leader. Sessions included presentations on
grassroots efforts in neighborhood groups, working with City Council and
staff, the Columbia Police Department, understanding code enforcement,
and an explanation of the development process. Participants leave the
program with additional knowledge and confidence to impact their
neighborhood.
The program was guided by a committee of citizens and city staff
coordinated through the city’s Office of Neighborhood Services.
University of Missouri Extension provided facilitation services for the
program. Those wanting to learn more about the program and future series
may call Leigh Britt, manager of Neighborhood Services, at 874-7504.
