TemporaryWinterDogParkOpen at TwinLakes
ColumbiaParksand Recreation has opened the temporary winter area at the TwinLakesRecreationAreaDogPark. The area will serve as the dog park through February.
The new temporary dog park is a fenced area around the former swimming lake, which has been drained to a shallow depth. The area was created last year to keep dogs from venturing onto the frozen lake and falling through the ice.
Parks and Recreation worked with the Columbia Fire Department to create the new dog park after the department was dispatched nine times in 2009 to rescue dogs that had fallen through the ice. There was also concern for dog owners and bystanders who might find themselves in dangerous situations trying to rescue a dog.
For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 874-7460.
