Saturday Science: students study electric safety

Time: Saturdays, February 6 and February 20, 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Place: Water and Light Casteel Building, 1518 Business Loop 70 East,
Suite A
(across the street from the Power Plant)

(Columbia, MO) - With the abundance of electric gadgets these
days, how do you tell if you are overloading a circuit? Columbia junior
high students will spend this Saturday morning learning about
calculating electric loads with a hands-on project designed by Columbia
Water & Light staff. The students will build a house with simple
electric circuits and calculating amps. The goal of the project is for
the students to apply science principles to something they deal with in
daily life.
Saturday Science was started by the Columbia Public Schools and
the University of Missouri along with local businesses to encourage
students’ interest in science. Students apply for the program through
their junior high school then spend several Saturdays traveling to
different locations to learn how science is used in various
occupations.
