Water main work will restrict traffic on Eighth and Hickman   
 
(COLUMBIA, MO) – Columbia Water and Light will upgrade a water line
located near the intersection of Eighth Street and Hickman Avenue from
Monday, March 29, through Friday, April 2, weather permitting.
Construction will be done each day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both streets
will be restricted to one lane of traffic at different times during the
week. Motorists are urged to find an alternate route or use caution when
traveling through the work zone. 

The existing water line is being upgraded to an 8-inch line to provide
more water for fire fighting and increase the reliability of water
service. Individual customer service lines will be replaced on Hickman
Avenue and connected to the new water main. Customers will be
individually notified of any temporary disruptions in their water
service while the work is being completed. The project is being funded
by a 2008 voter approved bond issue.

After the new main is placed in service, the water lines will be
flushed.  Customers in this area might notice a slight discoloration in
their water. Customers who experience this problem should let the water
run for a few minutes until the discoloration disappears. The water will
continue to be safe to drink.
