Water main work restricts traffic on Rogers and Eighth
(COLUMBIA, MO) – Columbia Water and Light is upgrading water mains to
Jefferson Junior High School and the surrounding area. The work will
hamper traffic on Rogers Street from Fifth Street to Eighth Street
Monday, March 29, through Friday, April 2, weather permitting.
Construction will be done each day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists
are urged to find an alternate route or use caution when traveling
through the work zone.
This project is part of the water main work on Eighth Street and
Hickman Avenue. Water lines in the area were upgraded to 8-inch lines to
provide more water for fire fighting and increase the reliability of
water service. Individual customer service lines will be connected to
the new water main on Rogers Street and Hickman Avenue. Customers will
be individually notified of any temporary disruptions in their water
service while the work is being completed. The project is being funded
by a 2008 voter approved bond issue.
After the new main is placed in service, the water lines will be
flushed. Customers in this area might notice a slight discoloration in
their water. Customers who experience this problem should let the water
run for a few minutes until the discoloration disappears. The water will
continue to be safe to drink.
