Lane markings and bike symbols

COLUMBIA, MO (May 7, 2010) - The Public Works Department announces Park
Mark will be painting lane markings and bike symbols beginning Monday,
May 10, from 8 a.m. through 7 p.m, including over the weekend. Work
should be completed by May 21, weather permitting.

The following streets will receive bike lane markings: Ash, Garth,
Woodard Dr, Mexico Gravel Rd, Vandiver Dr, Smiley, Rainforest Parkway,
Grant, Fairview and College Park. Shared lane markings will be placed on
Garth, William, Ash, Carter Lane, Manor, Clinkscales, Woodlawn, Rollins,
Bethel, and Fairview. Shared lane markings are used on streets that are
good for bike traffic but too narrow for separate bike lanes. These
markings are a safety measure to alert motorists and bicyclists that
they share the same lane. This project is being funded by GetAbout
Columbia.

City crews will be re-striping the normal lane markings at the same
time. Motorists encountering the paint striping equipment should avoid
crossing freshly painted lines and use an alternative route whenever
possible.
