Neighborhood Leadership Program accepting applications
COLUMBIA, MO (December 29, 2011) - The City of Columbia's Department of Community Development is currently accepting applications for the 2012 Neighborhood Leadership Program. The Neighborhood Leadership Program is a seven-session series on topics related to personal leadership and ways for citizens to strengthen their neighborhoods.
Among the topics to be covered are:
- learning more about the community
- hearing about grass roots efforts in neighborhoods
- finding out how to navigate local government
- learning about the development process and what part neighborhoods can play
- learning about city codes and how they are enforced
- networking with others in Columbia who are also passionate about their neighborhood
Sessions will be held Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Walton Building, 300 S. Providence Road. The 2012 program is scheduled for Jan. 24, Jan. 31, Feb. 7, Feb. 21, Feb. 28 and March 13. In addition, on Saturday, March 10, participants will have the opportunity to go on a field trip to several successful neighborhood projects.
The fee to participate in the program is $25; a limited number of scholarships are available. Space is limited to 25 participants. Those interested in participating in the Neighborhood Leadership Program should complete the online application form or request an application from the Department of Community Development. Deadline to apply is Jan. 9, 2012. Applicants admitted to the 2012 class will be notified by Jan. 13.
