Fire Chief Recognizes Citizen

COLUMBIA, MO (August 14, 2012) - Fire Chief Recognizes Citizen

Columbia Fire Chief Charles Witt, Jr. recognized Peter Zekert with a Letter of Commendation for his actions April 15, 2012.

Mr. Zekert was shopping at Walmart at 1201 Grindstone on the 15th of April when he came upon a 66-year-old male subject experiencing cardiac arrest.  Without hesitation Mr. Zeckert initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). He continued CPR until emergency units arrived.

Mr. Zekert had prior training as a lifeguard and was prepared for the task.  However, what that training could not provide was the courage and self-sacrifice needed to come to the aid of one's fellow citizen.

It is with great pride that we recognize Peter Zeckert for his actions.
