Fire Recruits Graduate from Academy

COLUMBIA, MO (December 18, 2012) - Four new firefighters for the Columbia Fire Department will graduate tonight at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council Chambers at 701 E. Broadway.  Mayor Bob McDavid, City Manager Mike Matthes, and Fire Chief Chuck Witt are scheduled to speak at the ceremony.

The four new Columbia firefighters are part of Basic Recruit School 2012-1 and will graduate along with five other recruits from Jefferson City, Hannibal, and Marshall Missouri. The recruits completed eleven weeks of basic firefighter training including vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response, rope rescue, and basic emergency medical care.

The newest Columbia firefighters will start work this week and each will be assigned a field training officer for the first 18 months of their career.
